Analytic Framework
From Complex Operations Wiki
The Analytic Framework is organized by seven categories, each representing a theme of variables from FM 3-24 Counterinsurgency. There are also sub-categories under each category that help to organize the variables. The following six categories should function as independent variables predicting insurgency behavior: Legitimacy/Collapse of State, Identity, Foreign Support, Mobilization/Technology, Grievances, and Geography. The seventh category can be described as Insurgency/Conflict indicators and are all variables that serve as dependent variables indicating insurgent behavior.
The variables in the loaded dataset come from 17 existing datasets that are used to study the occurrence of various types of domestic conflict, ranging from terrorist acts to the onset of civil war. The temporal domain of each data set varies, but each contains annual data and covers most of the 1981-present period.
